BravePicks 2018
10) SLEEP – The Sciences (Third Man)
Better late than never right? The napping, stoned giant woke as the dope and doom metallers Sleep dropped the surprising The Sciences album with no warning. Their first album since the one song record of 2003’s Dopesmoker, Matt Pike (High On Fire), Al Cisneros (Om), and drummer Jason Roeder (Neurosis) banded together for a high and mighty climb to of outstanding stoner metal. With riffs that Tony Iommi would be proud of and song titles like “Marijnaut’s Theme”, you know this is going to be one epic magic carpet ride. Now, be sure not wait so long with the next one boys.
Years after the release of Volume One in 1991, Sleep's Holy Mountain in 1992 and Dopesmoker in 2003, the sonic titans reaffirm their place at the top of the riff pyramid with this brand-new double album. The Sciences rightly takes its place in the BravePicks and starting off the top 10 of our countdown.
